The End of an Era

Just last month, local radio host icon for KRCL “Bad” Brad Wheeler announced his departure from the station. This came as a shock to most and set social media ablaze with angry loyal fans threatening to cease their funding of the station and even going as far as to start a petition to get Brad back on the air. A long time staple of KRCL and highly respected and loved by most, Brad’s resignation has left a lot of people wondering just what led to this. Salt Lake Tribune reported that program manager Vickie Mann insisted it was not the result of punitive action on their part in regards to Brad’s language on the air as some had speculated. She simply stated it “wasn’t anything specific this was related to” and that she was “in shock the rest of the day after he turned in his resignation letter”.

However, on June 4th, Wheeler posted a famous quote from Edmund Burke stating, “the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” Rather ironic for Brad to post such a thing just as he had resigned if there truly was no behind the scenes controversy that led to his absence. To make things more interesting, Wheeler changed his profile picture to one of former FBI director James Comey who, at the time, was answering questions before the Senate in regards to his dealings with President Trump which lead to his firing. One can’t help but believe there is more to this story than we are being lead to believe. Adding further intrigue, Wheeler informed Salt Lake Magazine that he was “engaging a lawyer and couldn’t talk until after the consultation, if then.”

I for one am sad to see Brad go and anxiously await a real explanation for his sudden departure. Brad is still very active in the community. One look at his Facebook and that is clear as he has recently posted a number of times about the upcoming “Pie and Beer Day” celebration taking place at Beer Bar next Monday as well as plenty of shout outs to Blues legends who he simply tags in his posts as if they were close friends… knowing Brad, they probably were.
